Christian Pfeiffer has delivered a new ball mill for the production of cement to the Portlandzementwerk Wotan in Ahütte, Germany, situated in the Vulkan Eifel. The new highly efficient plant is capable to easily produce cement types with mass related surfaces of more than 5000cm²/g acc. Blaine.

This new grinding plant completes the existing three cement mills of PZW Wotan and started its operation in early summer of 2010. It is now consistently impressing by its high performance and energy efficiency. The ball mill can be flexibly fed with clinker, gypsum, granulated blast furnace slag and two further grinding additives as well as a chromate reducer. For this purpose a comprehensive system of feed bins and conveyors has been integrated.

The heart of the new grinding plant is on one hand a two-compartment ball mill with a diameter of 4.4m and a grinding path length of 14m and on the other hand the advanced high efficiency separator of the QDK-NZ series, guaranteeing the requested cement quality. The mill is supported on slide shoe bearings and is driven by means of a lateral drive with a DMG 2 gear box with an installed mill motor capacity of 4400kW.
