The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property Protection (Indecopi) has endorsed a resolution made in April last year to dismiss Cementos Lima’s request to implement anti-dumping duties on imports of cement from the Dominican Republic by Cemex Dominicana.

According to a resolution of the Committee on Antidumping and Subsidies Indecopi concluded that imports from Cemex Dominican posed no threat against Cementos Lima.

He explained that although the Dominican imports have increased their share they only represented on average 1.5 per cent of total Peruvian demand between 2007 and 2009.

Cemex Dominicana’s ability to freely export to Peru has been estimated at between 55,000 and 183,000t. This amount would represent only 1.9 per cent of Peruvian demand in 2010 and, therefore, not pose a threat.
