Operation Technology, Inc. (OTI), developer of the ETAP enterprise solution for electrical power systems, has announced that Kolkata, India-based Shree Cement Ltd (SCL), goes live with ETAP Real-Time for power management at its cement plant in Beawar India.
India is the world’s second largest producer of cement after China and SCL is the leading cement producer in North India. SCL has implemented ETAP Power System Monitoring and Simulation (PSMS), Energy Accounting (EA), Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Interchange Transaction Scheduling (ITS), and Intelligent Load Shedding (ILS), as a complete solution for monitoring, controlling, protecting, and operating their system. This solution is the first of its kind in India.
The issue of high reliability of production systems is common to many capital-intensive industries -- from cement to refining to data centers. "Because of the high cost of unnecessary downtime, it is vital for a company like Shree Cement to implement a system that protects against power system interruptions and ensures continued productivity," says Hugo E. Castro, ETAP Automation Manager of OTI. "ETAP Real-Time detects potential threats by determining the source of potential problems and advises on corrective actions to avoid interruptions and the costs associated with them."
ETAP PSMS allows SCL to determine the appropriate system response to a variety of changes and disturbances, thereby minimizing interruptions to crucial electrical equipment. In addition, ETAP provides energy consumption and cost monitoring and reporting for optimizing energy utilization and tracking system benefits.
ETAP Automatic Generation Control was selected for managing and optimizing SCL’s electrical power distribution system between Beawar, RAS, and Khushkera facilities. ETAP Interchange Transaction Scheduling module is used to exchange power throughout the 150 km radius between the facilities and local utility.
Shree Cement also incorporated ETAP Intelligent Load Shedding to provide optimal fast load preservation based on actual operating condition of the system, including generation operating status, system stability, and load operating conditions and status. SCL selected ETAP ILS for its ability to dynamically determine the best load shedding priority within fractions of a second.
