Sri Lanka plans to import 300,000t of cement from Pakistan to ease the shortage of cement in the local market.

The Sri Lankan Cabinet today approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Industrial Development, Kumara Welgama to enter into an agreement with Pakistan’s DG Khan Cement Limited to important cement for the Sri Lanka Cement Corporation.

According to the agreement, Khan Cement will provide 300,000t of cement over a period of 12 months at the rate of 25,000t per month at a price of US$79/t.

The deal is the lowest bid received in response to the tender called by the Standard Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee.
