Pakistan will export about 52,000t of cement to India in the next two months.

This step has been necessitated after the cement cartel in India is said to have informed that country’s Government that it could take that much time for them to bring prices of that product down to acceptable levels.

Cement manufacturers and steel producers have said that they would get back to the government after discussing to what extent they could cut prices.

The Government of India has warned that it will not hesitate to take tough action against these cartels if they don’t bend. It said that will allow the duty-free import of cement to force the price of the same product at home down.

Cement prices have gone up from about Rs150 a 50kg bag to about Rs220-260 a 50kg bag in the past two years.
