Bamburi Cement says a fire at the firm’s plant did not affect production. A
statement from the firm said supply would not be affected as the fire only
affected a section of the factory, which was under maintenance. The
statement added that milling and packing was going on normally.

Managing Director, Mr Michel Puchercos, said preliminary reports indicate
the fire only affected the clinker cooler, ‘‘which  in any case had been
shut down for annual maintenance.’’

"We are fortunate that at the time of the incident, only a section of the
plant where clinker is cooled was affected since we had already shut down
this section for a scheduled annual maintenance," said Puchercos.

"Even before the incident, we were already well buffered in anticipation of
the 60-day shutdown period and we therefore do not anticipate any
interruption in the production since the milling operations are unaffected,"
he said.
