Some 42,000 tonnes of bagged cement are expected in Jamaica from Mainland International between September 8 and 12. In addition, Buying House is to provide an additional 30,000 tonnes of cement by September 24.


This is the word from the Ministry of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce (MITEC), in conjunction with the Incorporated Master Builders Association, the Hardware Merchants Association, and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.


At a joint meeting at the Ministry today (September 4), it was reported that approximately 16,000 tonnes of cement would be made available this week from the Caribbean Cement Company Limited.


Last week the Cement Company sold 17,486 tonnes of cement, with 3,534 being bulk, 1,287 in jumbo bags and 12,655 tonnes, which when converted, equal 410,104 regular bags.


The company reported that year-to-date sales amounted to 622,059 tonnes, compared with 600,305 tonnes for the similar period last year.
