Kampala International University (KIU) has dragged Hima Cement to court over failure to supply cement to their teaching hospital in Ishaka.  The university is seeking sh2.6b in damages and costs.

Through Kavuma Kabenge and Company Advocates, the university said Hima was to supply 50,000t of cement at sh17.6b but only supplied a few tonnes. The case is before the High Court commercial division.  KIU claims that Hima is still holding about sh2.4b, out of which sh2.2b is value added tax (VAT).

Hima said KIU asked for more cement than what was needed, adding that a lot of it was sold to the public below the market price.
