The Ministry of Industry, Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, is reporting that approximately 20,000t of cement will be available for distribution this week. In a joint meeting at the Ministry today (June 12), the entities reported that 75 per cent of the amount to be distributed would be bagged cement, while the remainder would be bulk.
It was reported that last week the Caribbean Cement Company Limited imported 201,000 bags (8,600t) of cement, which will be available for sale by tomorrow (June 13). This week, the company is expected to produce 328,000 bags (14,000t), and an additional 5000t of bulk cement.
Last week the company sold 355,000 bags (15,000t) and 5,000t of bulk cement. The entities also stated that 3000t of bagged cement are expected from Columbia on June 17, and 8000t from Cuba on June 20. The shipments were delayed due to inclement weather in both countries.
