Argentina’s cement production rose 28 per cent YoY in May 2006 reaching its highest level for the past six years, the Association of Portland cement makers said.

The sales, including exports, increased 7.8 per cent month-on-month to 754,854t in May 2006. The results indicate that the public works sector will maintain its importance in the governmental strategy for economic development.

Domestic cement sales increased 28.3 per cent YoY and 8.1 per cent month-on-month in May 2006 to 745,493t, including the imports. Argentina’s construction activity expanded 23.2 per cent YoY in April 2006, while the economy grows at a rhythm of nine per cent annually.
