Industry Minister Ali Coşkun said that following their meeting with representatives of cement sector he would meet with representatives from ready-mixed concrete and steel sector next week. Increases in cement prices, which also increased housing prices made the government take action and during meetings it was decided that prices wouldn’t be increased if not necessary.

Addressing a press conference with Competition Board Chairman Mustafa Parlak, Coşkun said that price increases in the cement sector resulted in 4-5 percent increase in house prices, adding that as government they didn’t want to directly affect the market, but that they would play a “stabilizing” role.

”We discussed the cement sector, but there are problems in steel. It is obvious that the ready-mixed concrete also made fluctuations in the market. Thus, we’ll meet with the officials of both sectors,” said Coşkun, adding that specialists would prepare report on the issue.
