The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Monday will review the current price situation of cement and will take a decision whether to lift the ban imposed on the export of cement, an official told the Daily Times on Saturday. The Planning Commission has recommended Rs 83 per bag increase in urea prices to encourage the use of phosphatic fertilizers. A new “shared subsidy mechanism” is expected to be approved in this regard at the ECC meeting.

The ECC meeting, scheduled on Monday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, will take up a six-point agenda. The ministry of industries, production and special initiatives has submitted a proposal to the ECC to review the prices of cement in the country. The ECC will take decision on export ban issue while keeping in view the availability of cement in the market and its current prices.
