The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Pakistan Cabinet had taken cognizance of the sharp increase in prices of cement with grave concern. It was generally observed that the increase in prices was demand driven. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives the ECC approved a series of measures to improve the supply of cement in the domestic market which would lead to a drop in prices.

One of the major initiatives in this context was to provide an Rs 60/50kg bag freight subsidy on imported cement. The procedure for lodging claims by importers for obtaining Freight Subsidy against duty free import of cement has been notified by the Government Importers may lodge their claims, along with the following documents, to their bankers within 60 days from the clearance of the consignment from the Customs: Import documents including invoice, copy of contract/ LC, of Entry/GD Form Truck/Railway Receipt, etc.
