TCL still to decide on Haiti

TCL still to decide on Haiti
16 March 2006

Trinidad Cement Limited, TCL, says it will await completion of the expansion of Caribbean Cement before deciding whether to take up an offer to expand operations to Haiti. TCL has controlling interest in Caribbean Cement which is Jamaica’s sole manufacturer of cement. Interim Prime Minister Gerard Latortue has invited TCL to construct a cement plant in Haiti. TCL’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rollin Bertrand says the proposal is being considered. Dr. Bertrand says Haiti has the raw material for cement and could be a good market for supplies. He says this could be a possibility in two years when the expansion in Jamaica is completed.
