Domestic cement consumption reached 2.24Mt in January, flat from a year ago, while exports fell 16.4 per cent year-on-year to 209,554t, the Indonesian Cement Association said. West Java, the biggest market in Java, reported a drop of 19.2 per cent in cement consumption to 330,979t while East Java posted a 22.8 per cent decline to 254,067t, the association said in a report. Meanwhile, consumption in the capital Jakarta dropped 3.7 per cent to 281,282t while Central Java reported growth of 4.8 per cent to 236,510t. Outside Java, cement consumption in Sumatra increased 28.8 per cent year-on-year to 537,332t tonnes; Sulawesi up 19.3 per cent to 144,881t, Kalimantan up 3.5 per cent to 112,513t and Nusa Tenggara down 3.8 per cent to 106,182t.
