The cement shortage that has been plaguing Jamaica’s construction sector is over. News from Caribbean Cement Company is that the market now has adequate supplies of cement to meet demand. In addition, General Manager of Caribbean Cement, Anthony Haynes, says the Bureau of Standards has given clearance for the release of supplies which have been imported. Late last year, Caribbean Cement Company was forced to import cement to supplement the chronic shortage of the commodity. This was due to production at the company being affected by protracted rainfall, a three day work stoppage due to industrial action as well as the effect on the staff of the murder of a supervisor on the premises.
