Peru’s overall cement sales in November rose a sharp 13.3% to 432,110t from the 381,250t sold in the same month a year before, the National Association of Cement Producers, or Asocem, said Thursday.

In the first 11 months of the year, cement sales totaled 4,572,515t, a 10.18% increase from the same period a year earlier.  Cement production, an indicator of domestic demand, is a key component of activity in the construction sector.  Construction has been booming due to building of shopping centers, offices and a government-sponsored housing program.

Cementos Lima SA led the sales in November, selling 183,841t of cement, which includes 31,101t for export, the association said.
