Japan cement shipments totalled 6.29Mt  in October 2005, up 7.6 per cent year-on-year, the Japan Cement Association said on November 28, 2005.  The figure marked a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive month. The increase can be put down to brisk domestic cement demand as well as to strong exports to Singapore and West Africa.

Domestic cement shipments stood at 5.26Mt in October 2005, up 7.0 per cent, also marking a year-on-year increase for the third straight month. Overseas cement shipments went up 10.6 per cent to 1.03Mt, marking a year-on-year increase for the second consecutive month. The figure also exceeded the 1.0Mt mark for the first time since March 2005.
