UAE’s cement consumption is expected to grow to 11Mt in 2005 because of the booming construction sector, the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) said in a report published in early November 2005.
Eleven cement companies operate in the UAE, of which eight are integrated cement manufacturers and only Ras al-Khaimah Co for White Cement & Construction Materials is specialised in white cement production.
The combined net profit of the eight cement and building materials companies listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) soared 102% year-on-year to AED1.31bn (US$356.7m) in the first nine months of 2005.
