"Ararat Cement" and "Mika Cement" are dominant on Armenia’s cement market. A study conducted by the RA Commission for Protection of Economic Competition showed that in 2004 the cement market was improved thanks to local production. Armine Udumyan, Press Secretary to the Commission Chairman, reported a total of 341,000 tons of cement were sold in Armenia during the period under review, which is 68% of the total output.
"Ararat Cement" covers 57.5% of the market(196,137 tons) and "Mika Cement"
42.4% (144,658 tons). Based on the study results, Commission made a decision on centralization of the market and registration of the two companied at the Centralized Register.
Within the current year, two cement producers in Armenia have raised the prices for their production by 50% i.e. to AMD32,000 per tonne (US$72), Chairman of the Commission for Protection of Economic Competition of Armenia Ashot Shahnazaryan says.
