The president of Cementos de Chihuahua, Federico Terrazas, said that the new R&D centre would double the innovation and R&D investments of the cement maker.

Terrazas said that the company had studied various options to build a similar centre elsewhere, most probably in the USA. The centre cost some US$5.0m  (EUR4.1m), Terrazas added.

Cementos de Chihuahua plans to research in the centre the possibilities on elaborating a new, fast-drying cement type. The invention of such type of cement will allow airport runways maintenance by night and they will be usable on the next day, Terrazas explained.
