Plans by Cimarmor, a subsidiary of the Belgian registered Fuenciment, and run by Messrs. Carlos Borck and Javier Abad, to build a cement grinding plant at the port of Lorient in Brittany in western France have received the support of the local chamber of commerce, prior to being subject to a public enquiry, the outcome of which should be known some time during September. Cimarmor aims to take over a dock-side site being vacated by another user and to invest €30m in installing a grinding station, a semi-spheric clinker silo with a capacity of 40,000t, three 38m high cement silos and to convert some existing buildings on the site into storage facilities for slag and gypsum. It is intended to bring in both the clinker and the slag by ship and to market the cement primarily by road in the adjoining hinterland. If the required approvals are forthcoming, it is hoped to start cement production during the second half on 2007.
