Cement sales in Cyprus dropped to 134,000t in May 2005 compared to 138,000t for the same month of 2004, according to data published by the island’s National Statistics Service (NSS).  It is the first time after a period of 16 months that the island’s cement sales mark a drop, which might be attributed to bad weather conditions in May 2005, according to NSS. 

Cyprus cement sales for January to May 2005 increased to 679,000t compared to the same period of 2004 when 612,000t of cement were sold. 

In the first quarter of 2005, cement sales grew by 14.8% YoY to 398,200t. Cement sales rose by 36% and 17% in January and in February 2005, respectively, compared to the same months of 2004.
