Phuc Son Cement Company on Tuesday commissioned the first stage of its cement plant of the same name in the northern province of Hai Duong, Vietnam after ten years of development. The company, a joint venture between Taiwan’s Lucky Cement Group and the local Hai Duong Cement Company on a 90-10 share split, will be operating at 70 per cent to its annual capacity of 1.8Mt, said Vu Ngoc Dung, deputy general director of the company.
The US$265m factory will operate at full capacity in the second stage if all obstacles regarding the raw materials are settled. The company has faced the deadlock in the past as the local material in the area is not sufficient to ensure full production. Dung said the company had reported its difficulties to the Government and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to ask for help at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and foreign investors late last month. After that, Khoan has sent correspondences to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and authorities of Hai Phong City, where there is abundant supplies of limestone, to demand assistance for the cement project owner.
