Peru’s overall cement sales in April rose 0.7 per cent to 405,535t from the 402,624t sold in April 2004, as the economy continued to expand, the National Association of Cement Producers, or Asocem, said Monday.  In the first four months of the year, cement sales totaled 1,538,415t, a 4.9 per cent increase from the same period the year earlier.

Cementos Lima SA led in April, selling 210,465t of cement, which includes 66,911t for export, the association said.  Separately, the government statistics agency, INEI, said Monday that Peru’s unemployment rate for the Lima area was down to 9.7 per cent in April from 10.4 per cent in March.
