The management of Dutch cement factory ENCI in Maastricht, southern Netherlands, and trade unions reached an agreement on a social plan for the company’s redundant employees on April 20, 2005, the trade union De Unie said.  Under the social plan, employees at the age of 58 years and older will receive a compensation, sloping from 80 pct to 75 pct of their salary until they reach the retirement age of 62 years. During a period of between nine and 18 months, the remaining employees will be helped to find another job.  Initially 50 employees will lose their jobs. The remaining will be laid off in 2008 or in 2010, depending on the closure of the cement kiln. The total number of job cuts will be some 270.
