Cement consumption in Spain decreased 0.3 pct year-on-year to 11.4Mt in the first quarter of 2005, Spanish Cement Makers Association (OFICEMEN) said.
The decrease resulted from the fewer work days in Spain for the period due to the Easter holidays in March 2005.
Cement production in Spain increased by 2.9 per cent YoY to 11.2Mt in the first quarter of 2005. Spanish cement exports went up by 16.9 per cent YoY to 360,558t in the first three months of 2005. Imports for the period fell by 11.8 per cent YoY to 1.6Mt. Most imports came from Egypt, Turkey and Portugal.
In the 12 months to March 2005, cement demand in Spain stood at 47.9Mt, a 2.4 per cent YoY rise.
