Confirming the trend seen in previous months, the sales index of the Chilean construction sector’s wholesale providers climbed substantially in November. The year-on-year gain in the month reached 15.2 per cent, while seasonally-adjusted figures showed a 10.3 per cent increase. The most popular products sold in the period of reference were concrete, steel rods and cement. Sales for cement were up by 54.3 per cent year-on-year, respectively, which means that November’s total sales outstripped October’s sales. Cement sales were up 9.3 per cent in November compared to the same month of the previous year. The sector’s expansion in 2005 may surpass this figure, however, considering the larger number of investment projects lined up in the housing and infrastructure sectors.
