Saudi cement producer Yanbu Cement Company (YCC) has awarded German company KHD Humboldt Wedag AG an additional 13.4 mln Saudi riyal ($3.6m) contract for the expansion of the clinker daily capacity of the fourth production line at YCC’s new plant to 9500tpd from 7000tpd, it was reported on January 3, 2005.

The new contract brings the total value of the expansion of the fourth production line to 233.4 mln riyals ($62.2m). In May 2004, the two companies signed two contracts worth 220 mln riyals ($58.7m) on the project. The first contract was for the upgrade of the clinker line to raise its capacity to 8500tpd, which, under the latest contract, will be increased to 9500tpd.

The second contract is for the supply and installation of an additional cement mill which will increase daily grinding capacity to 4.2Mt from 1.4Mt. The projects are scheduled for completion in 2005.  The expansion will bring YCC’s total clinker output to 4.3Mta, while the cement grinding capacity will increase to 6.0Mt.
