Construction activity in the building and construction sector picked up during the financial year 2003/04, with cement consumption increasing by 5.8 per cent to 1,323,105t from 1,251,042t in the financial year 2002/03. The construction sector is expected to pick up substantially in the current financial year and into the medium term following renewed donor support to Kenya for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the country’s infrastructure. Overall commitments for the roads and transport sectors over the next five years include US $ 207m from the World Bank and Ksh4bn counterpart funds from the government.
