Ras al-Khaimah cement manufacturer Union Cement signed on December 12, 2004 an agreement, worth over 500 mln UAE dirhams ($136.1m), with China National Building Materials Equipment Corporation (CBMEC) for the construction of a new clinker production facility.

The clinker facility will be built at the current location of Union Cement’s plant at Khor Khwair industrial area in Ras al-Khaimah. Under the terms of the agreement, the project is to be completed and handed to Union Cement within a 21-month period. The company’s expansion comes to meet the increasing demand for cement and clinker in the UAE, boosted by the country’s economic development, Union Cement’s chairman, Saqr bin Khalid Humaid al-Qasimi, said. With the new expansion project, Union Cement targets
to become the largest cement and clinker producer in the UAE.
