Argentina’s domestic cement sales, including imports, rose to 573,706t, up 3.4 per cent month-on-month in November 2004, and 23.2 per cent YoY, the national association of Portland cement producers said.
Argentina’s cement sales could top 6.1Mt in 2004, which will represent an 18 per cent YoY increase. The rise in cement sales is seen as a result of the construction sector’s growth. Argentina’s construction sector is a key sector for the economy and one of the largest employment generation sectors.
Argentina’s economy is expected to increase between seven per cent and eight per cent in 2004, according to data of the Economy Ministry and the Central Bank. The economy is seen to grow some five per cent in 2005.
Argentina’s construction sector is expected to grow 12 per cent YoY in 2004 and 2005, the president of Argentina’s Chamber of Construction, Carlos Wagner, said earlier in November 2004. The construction sector growth will contribute to a one per cent rise in the country’s GDP, Wagner added.
