In his role as APCAC President, Christian Agnes of Lafarge Ciments Antilles had the pleasure of opening the APCAC XXI Technical Conference 2004 held at the Trinidad Hilton Hotel, Port of Spain. More than 140 delegates are attending the meeting which runs from 25-28 October and has two full days of technical papers on cement manufacturing and an exhibition of some 20 stands.
Christian said: “This meeting of APCAC is not only an opportunity for technical exchange, but also on occasion to meet friends, as we have many participants who have been attending this event each year for more than 10 years and we wish this to continue.”
Among the morning papers deserving particular attention were Rafael Quintero’s presentation on the repair to Tolcemento’s raw mill replacing the hoop section and inner mill wall, plus Adolfo Granajo’s speech on Cementos Progreso Guatemala plant which detailed how the company had improved uniformity of the raw meal to the kiln using Holcim’s ‘Standard of Project Management Approval.’
Further presentations from Carib Cement, TCL and Cemex Nicaragua kept delegates’ attention well into the afternoon. The conference continues today (Wednesday) with another series of papers and concludes on tomorrow with a plant tour of TCL’s cement plant.
