Minister of commerce Mohammad Shariatmadari reports that given the large investments made in the sector, Iran’s annual cement production will hit 40Mt within the next three years. Shariatmadari added, “In the coming years, we need to construct cement export terminals in order to export a surplus of 5Mt.” He said that 30Mt of cement is currently produced in the country while annual domestic consumption stands at 31Mt.

To meet the current shortage, Shariatmadari said 1.5Mt of cement would be imported by the end of the current year. The minister of commerce added that measures have been taken in advance to enable domestic cement companies to export cement in future. “It is my opinion that during the next two years cement import will be inevitable because the demand is higher than supply until then,” Shariatmadari further explained.
