Cement sales in Cyprus accounted for 138,000 tonnes in May 2004, rising by 19.1 pct year-on-year and by 10 pct month-on-month, according to data provided by the island’s National Statistics Service, published on June 16, 2004.  Cement exports stood at 15,000 tonnes in May 2004.  A total of 610,231 tonnes of cement was sold in the first five months of 2004 compared to 513,542 tonnes in the same period of 2003. Representatives of the sector expect a shortage of cement to threaten the local construction market in near future.
