AB Akmenes Cementas, Lithuania’s only cement producer, announced that its five-month income reached 33.5m litas (EUR9.7m), a boost of almost 29 per cent from the corresponding period in 2003, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported.

The cement company, according to the paper, bettered its income in the first five months of the year due to growing sales in both domestic and overseas markets. In the previous year, the company generated 26.1m litas (EUR7.5m) during the first five months.

Annual net profit of Akmenes Cementas in 2003 totalled 7.9m litas (EUR2.2m) before audit, 5.4 times more than net profit the year before.
