The Vice-Chairman of India Cements Limited (ICL),  DL Subrahmanyam, and other senior officials on Sunday inspected the cement factory at Chilamakur in Yerraguntla mandal and began a review of yesterday’s fire accident. They also looked for ways to restore the plant to its full production capacity. Such a restoration of the factory would require technological assistance from overseas and could take at least three months.  The general secretary of AITUC, S. Gangi Reddy, and other union leaders today sought assistance from the Government to enable the factory to become functional again.

The ICL unit at Chilamakur has witnessed three major accidents since 1984. Yesterday’s mishap was reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit in the central control room. There were no casualties.
