Turkish cement sector output totalled 6,756,902t in the first three months of 2004, up by 1.76Mt compared with the same period of 2003, data of the Turkish Union of Cement Producers have said.

The factories in the northwestern Marmara region produced 2.6Mt of cement, followed by the factories in Mediterranean region with an output of 1.3Mt, the factories in the Aegean region with 1.1Mt and the factories in the Black Sea region with a cement production of 684,833t.

The mainly export-oriented cement factories in the Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia has registered an output of 129,744t and 583,624t, respectively.

Turkish cement sector exports rose to 1,890,778t from 1,360,429t.

Turkey’s total cement output stood at 28.106Mt in 2003, compared to 26.2Mt in 2002. The country’s cement exports climbed to 7.3Mt in 2003 from 5.5Mt in the previous year, mainly due to a rise in exports to Iraq.
