A US$130m clinker production line that Cemex’s Dominican Republic subsidiary is building will begin operations next semester, the Dominican Republic government reported. The investment will allow for an increased capacity of 2.2Mta of clinker production, compared to the current facility’s 600,000tpa capacity. According to Cemex, the 1.6Mta kiln will be the largest in the Caribbean, transforming Cemex Dominicana into the largest regional cement producer. Construction began in November last year.
