Jordan-based cement producer Arab White Cement Co (AWCC) posted a gross profit of 2.1 mln Jordanian dinars (US$3.0m) for 2003, down from 2.6 mln dinars (US$3.7m) for 2002, it was reported on March 31, 2004. The company reported sales of 110,000t worth 7.7 mln dinars (US$10.9m) in 2003, compared to 112,000t for 7.9 mln dinars (US$11.2m) in 2002. The decline is mainly a result of the Iraqi crisis and the unstable situation in the region, the company said. Currently, AWCC’s annual output stands at some 113,000 tonnes. The largest part of the company’s production is earmarked for the local market. The company also exports some 45,000tpa to Syria in addition to exports to the Iraqi market. AWCC is equally owned by the governments of Jordan and Syria. The company, based in Amman, has a capital of 10 mln dinars.
