Because of the implementation of the public construction projects and the revival of the construction industry, cement sales in the Taiwan market remained quite brisk in January. Taiwan Cement Corporation (TCC), Taiwan’s leading cement producer, recorded the highest domestic cement sales of 470,000t among local cement makers in the month.  TCC attributed the good sales performance to a full run of its Hoping cement plant in Hualien County, northern Taiwan, and to the increase in exports.

Domestic cement producers rolled out 1.568Mt in January, up 1.94 per cen from the same month of last year, according to statistics compiled by the Taiwan Cement Products Association.  The association’s tallies also showed domestic cement sales amounted to 1.065 million metric tons in January, down 13.48 per cent from one year earlier. Cement exports reached 487,500t in January, a substantial increase of 41.32 per cent from the same month of last year. If imports are included, sales of cement in the domestic market amounted to 1.15Mt in January.

TCC and another leading firm Asia Cement Corp. made all-out efforts to raise export volume in January as the international cement price was trending upward. TCC said it exported 325,400 metric tons of cement in January, almost catching up with the volume of its domestic sales.
