Portuguese cement group Cimpor announced on February 4, 2004 its plans to invest 27.6 mln euro (US$33.5m) in Morocco by 2005. The investment targets the capacity increase of Cimpor’s Asment de Temara plant in the country. The installation of new machinery, including two grinding mills, will increase the annual cement production capacity of Asment de Temara to 1.2Mt from the current 840,000t. The Portuguese group has had a 54 per cent stake in the Moroccan cement company Asment de Temara’ capital since August 1996.
