Although grey cement sales barely expanded during December 2003 (0.4 per cent when compared to December 2002), annual sales were up by 6.2 per cent as Colombian cement makers sold 5,440,764t of cement during 2003, according to figures from the ICPC, Colombia¹s cement association. The positive trend could be noted in particular in the bulk sector, which saw a 19.2 per cent rise to 1,154,865t. Bagged cement sales increased by 3.1 per cent to 4,285,900t.

Consequently, per capita cement consumption in the country now stands at 122kg, moving up by 4.7 per cent, but far from the 1994 peak of 217kg. The market suffered significant losses in 1999, but has been slowly but steadily recovering since then.
