Yemen's cement output stood at 1,541,352t in 2003 while sales of locally produced cement reached 1,540,308t worth 16.4 bln Yemeni rials (US$92.2m), it was reported on January 22, 2004.  The cement plant in Amran, to the northwest of the Yemeni capital Sana, produced cement worth over US$37.6m, while the cement plants in Bajil and Al-Barh had a cement output worth over US$19.1m and US$34.3m respectively.  The three state-owned plants exceeded their planned output by a total of 271,352t during the year. The Amran cement plant produced 605,210t of cement, 105,210t above the planned level. The output of Al-Barh plant exceeded the plan by 94,649t and reached 594,649t and the plant in Bajil produced 341,493t, 71,493t above the target.  The state-owned Cement Manufacturing & Marketing Company paid over US$10.3m  to the state treasury during 2003.
