Pakistan-based Thatta Cement Company Limited (TCCL) has signed an agreement with Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) for the construction of a grinding plant as well as a storage and bagging facility.

The SLPA had signed a preliminary agreement with Thatta Cement back in January 2012 and now a formal agreement with the Sri Lankan government has been signed for the implementation of the project.

The grinding plant will initially produce 100,000tpa which is expected to be increased in the future. Thatta Cement has decided to construct the grinding plant to benefit from growing demand in Sri Lanka and the African continent. This project will use imported clinker from the company’s operations in Pakistan. Cement will be packed at the new bagging facility at the Hambantota port and sold to the Sri Lankan market.
