FLSmidth Cement is set to open a new 13,330m2 equipment plant in Allentown, eastern Pennsylvania, USA, for the manufacture and assembly of cement pneumatic transport equipment. The facility will also serve as a distribution warehouse for replacement parts to be shipped domestically and worldwide.

The Danish-based company already has its US headquarters in the city and deep historic ties, having acquired the Fuller Co in 1990. Presently it is in the final stages of relocating workers from plants in Perkin, Illinois, and Tucson, Arizona, to the new plant. FLSmidth recently took the decision to split its mining and cement operations and those facilities have been designated for mining.

Several FLSmidth employees in engineering and sales were already based in the wider Lehigh Valley area, making the location an easy choice. When fully operational the site is expected to employ more than 60 workers.

In addition to the pneumatic vein equipment, which transports cement powder and other products, further equipment to be installed at the new plant include an Italian-built precision grinder and a Japanese horizontal boring mill.
