US cement shipments rise 4% YoY in 2013

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico during 2013 reached 82Mt, up four per cent year on YoY, the latest data from the US Geological Survey has confirmed. Imports for the full year 2013 totalled 7.2Mt, up by three per cent from the same period in 2012.

During December 2013, shipments were 5.1Mt, an increase of almost nine per cent YoY. The leading cement-producing states in December were Texas California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana and Arizona, in descending order) received about 45 per cent of the total December shipments.

Clinker production totaled about 5.2Mt in December, down by almost five per cent from the output in December 2012. Total production for 2013 was 69.9Mt, up by about three per cent. The leading clinker-producing states in December were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama, in descending order.
