Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for the January-October 2014 period were 75.8Mt, an increase of eight per cent YoY, latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows.
Shipments in October 2014 were 9.6Mt, up 10 per cent from the same month of the previous year. The leading portland-cement producing states in October were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan and Alabama, in descending order, accounting for approximately 42 per cent of the total output.
The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order), received about 37 per cent of the October shipments.
Clinker production totalled 7.1Mt in October 2014, up by six per cent. The leading clinker-producing states in October were Texas. Missouri, California, Alabama and Florida in descending order.
October 2014 imports of cement and clinker of 910,000t were almost 24 per cent higher than those in October 2013. Imports for the year through October totalled 7.05Mt, up by 16.5 per cent from the same period of 2013.
