US February shipments up 2% YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2015 were about 4.8Mt, up by about two per cent from the level in February 2014, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows.

Shipments for the year through February totalled 10.2Mt, up by about seven per cent from the same period in 2014. The leading producing states for Portland and blended cement in February were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia, in descending order) received about 54 per cent of the February shipments.

Clinker production totalled about 4.6Mt in February 2015, up by about 14 per cent from the output in February 2014. Production for the year through February was nearly 10Mt, up by almost 16 per cent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in February were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and South Carolina, in descending order, and these accounted for 57 per cent of total output.

February 2015 imports of cement and clinker of 398,000t were about three per cent higher than those in February 2014. Imports for the year through February totalled 970,000t – up 22 per cent YoY.
