Total shipments of Portland and blended cement (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico in April 2018 increased 8.9 per cent YoY to 8.2Mt, according to the latest data by the US Geological Survey (USGS). 

The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio, which received some 44 per cent of total April shipments. Leading producing states were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.

Masonry deliveries reached about 209,000t in April 2018, representing an eight per cent YoY rise. Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia – the leading consuming states – accounted for about 57 per cent of April shipments.

Clinker production (excluding Puerto Rico) totalled 6.4Mt in April 2018, a five per cent rise when compared with April 2017.

Domestic output was supplemented by 1.3Mt of cement and clinker imports, increasing 19 per cent when compared with April 2017.

In the first four months of 2018, shipments for Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico (including imports) edged up 2.6 per cent to 27.2Mt when compared with the equivalent period of the previous year. 

However, masonry cement shipments slipped 3.4 per cent YoY in 4M18 to 753,000t.

Clinker production remained stable at 21.7Mt with Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama as leading producing states.

Imports for the first four months of 2018 edged up by four per cent YoY to 3.7Mt.
